Special Interest License Plates

Special interest license plates are pretty much exactly as the name makes them seem. These plates are obtained if you have a special interest that you want displayed on your license plate. Categories included in this are heritage, miscellaneous/support, orginizations/groups, universities/education, and wildlife conservation.

Heritage

Preserve Our Heritage - first starting to be available in december of 1998, 15 dollars from each plate will underwrite the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission's educational and exhibit programs.
Appalachian Trail - available with 5 letters or numbers in combination. Because it is a revenue sharing plate 26 dollars of the 52 one time fee go towards the Appalachian Trail Conservancy to help support their mission.
Presque Isle State Park - the official lighthouse license plate of pennsylvania, the plate was introduced in October of 2006.

Miscellaneous/Support

Support Our Troops
PA Choose Life
Drug Abuse Resistance Education - distinct design between 1996 and 2005. Proceeds benefit the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency's drug prevention program.
Organ Donation
Honoring Our Veterans - this plate became available on November 26, 2012 and 15 dollars from every plate will benefit the veterans trust fund.
Flyers Wives Charity
Support Your Zoo - first issued in April of 1996. Proceeds from this plate benefit the Pennsylvania Zoological Council's six member zoos: the Philadelphia Zoo, the Pittsburgh Zoo, the Erie Zoo, the Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown, the National Aviary in Pittsburgh and the Lehigh Valley Zoo.
NASCAR Racing - logos identifying specific drivers and race car numbers. Now discontinued but if you already have one you can keep it.

Drexel University - you would have this plate if you went to Drexel University
LaSalle University - you would have this plate if you went to LaSalle University

Pitt Bicentennial - Pittsburgh bicentennial license plate
Allegheny College - you would have this plate if you went to Alleghent College
Endinboro University - you would have this plate if you went to Edinboro University
Temple University - you would have this plate if you went to Temple University

Wildlife Conservation

Conserve Wild Resources - the first special fund plate, issues between 1993 and 1999. The proceeds benefit the State Wild Resources Conservation Fund.
Save Wild Animals - introduced in 1999. replaced the owl plate.
